A 28-year-old man is dead after a transport truck struck him while he was on roller blades in Ajax on Tuesday evening.

Durham Regional Police said officers from West Division were called to the area of Salem Road and Chambers Drive at about 8:40 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2026.

According to Durham Regional Police, a 2027 Freightliner operated by a 60-year-old man was exiting the westbound Highway 401 off-ramp at Salem Road when it made a right turn and struck the pedestrian, who was on roller blades.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and co-operated with police, according to investigators.

Members of the force's Collision Investigation Unit attended and closed the roadway for several hours while evidence was collected and the scene documented.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with investigators to come forward.
