Ajax’s efforts to support cycling and active transportation have earned the town another silver designation in the 2026 Bicycle Friendly Community Awards, according to a Town of Ajax announcement.
The Share the Road Cycling Coalition recognized Ajax as a Silver Bicycle Friendly Community. Ajax is one of five Ontario municipalities to receive that level of recognition this year.
The awards are presented annually at the Ontario Bike Summit. They recognize municipalities for work that helps make communities safer, more accessible and better connected for people travelling by bicycle.
The recognition considers cycling infrastructure alongside education, planning and community engagement. For Ajax, retaining silver status reflects its ongoing commitment to cycling and active transportation, the town said.
Mayor Shaun Collier said the designation reflects continued efforts to improve connections and accessibility in Ajax. He said support for active transportation and investment in cycling give residents and visitors more opportunities to travel around town, remain active and enjoy the community.
Armi De Francia, the town’s active transportation coordinator, said maintaining the designation recognizes ongoing work to improve cycling in Ajax.
De Francia said the town intends to build on that work through transportation planning, safer bicycle connections and initiatives that encourage more residents to use bikes as a convenient way to get around.
