A 20-year-old Alliston man is facing a criminal charge after an Ontario Provincial Police investigation into an alleged threat against Premier Doug Ford.
The OPP Protective Services Section opened the investigation last February after a threat directed at the premier was reported, OPP said.
Ramy Jamil Hanna of Alliston has been charged with one count of uttering threats to cause harm under the Criminal Code.
The charge alleges a threat to cause harm, which is laid when police believe someone communicated an intent to injure another person. A charge has not been tested in court, and the allegation has not been proven.
Hanna was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court in Bradford on April 9.
The case connects two Simcoe County communities: Alliston, in New Tecumseth, where the accused lives, and Bradford, where the matter will be heard.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
