A 33-year-old Barrie man is facing several charges after a series of Thanksgiving weekend collisions in the city's northeast end where the driver allegedly failed to remain at the scene.
Barrie Police were called on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, at about 10:15 p.m. after a vehicle struck several parked cars along Stanley Street, according to a Barrie Police Service media release.
The vehicle was later found abandoned in the area of Highway 400 near Tiffin Street.
Using descriptions of the driver and the vehicle provided to them, officers identified the registered owner of the car, police said.
Arrest at home followed breath testing
When officers went to the vehicle owner's address, a man matching the description of the driver answered the door, according to the release.
Police reported detecting a strong odour of alcohol from the man and noted that his speech was slurred. After speaking with another person at the residence, officers learned the man had just arrived home, the release said.
He was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and taken to police headquarters, where testing confirmed his blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, the 33-year-old Barrie man has been charged in connection with the collisions. The specific charges were not included in the portion of the release provided.
Police appealing for surveillance footage
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone who lives in the area of Stanley Street and may have surveillance footage of the collisions on Oct. 11 to contact the investigating officer by email.
No injuries were reported in connection with the collisions, according to police. The parked vehicles that were struck were unoccupied at the time.
The charges have not been tested in court. The accused's name has not been released by police.
