Barrie residents can turn lunch into a donation next week, when the city's Jersey Mike's location gives every dollar it earns to a local youth charity.

On Wednesday, March 25, the sub shop will hand over 100 per cent of its sales — not just its profit — to Youth Haven, according to BarrieToday. The one-day fundraiser is part of the sandwich chain's 16th annual Day of Giving.

It's the culmination of a month-long push. Throughout March, all 21 Jersey Mike's locations in Canada have been collecting customer donations for local charities as part of the company's Month of Giving campaign, according to a Jersey Mike's Canada news release. More than 3,200 of the chain's restaurants are taking part across the broader campaign.

How to take part

The donation applies to every order made on March 25, whether customers walk in, order online or use the chain's app. The fundraiser runs all day.

That means a sandwich bought at the Barrie shop that day sends its full purchase price to Youth Haven, not just a portion of the proceeds.

The company describes the Day of Giving as its busiest day of the year, so shoppers planning to drop by may want to expect a lineup — or order ahead through the app.

A month of giving

The March campaign has become an annual tradition for the chain, now in its 16th year. Customers have been able to add donations to their orders at participating locations throughout the month, with each restaurant directing funds to a charity in its own community.

For the Barrie location, that beneficiary is Youth Haven.

The company sums up the initiative with its motto, "Giving…making a difference in someone's life," according to the news release.

People interested in learning more can visit jerseymikes.ca or follow the campaign on social media, where the company is encouraging people to join the conversation using the hashtag #JerseyMikesGives.

For anyone in Barrie looking to support Youth Haven this month, March 25 offers a simple option: buy a sub, and the full price goes to the charity.
