A 41-year-old Brampton man has been arrested and charged after a Peel Regional Police officer was struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop in Brampton last month.
According to Peel Regional Police, the incident began on May 26, when an officer investigated a vehicle with improper plates in a parking lot near Peel Centre Drive in Brampton.
Police say the driver became uncooperative during the interaction and tried to run away on foot. When the officer moved to take him into custody, he was assaulted. The accused then fled the scene in a vehicle, striking both the officer and the officer's police cruiser.
The officer suffered only minor injuries, police said.
On June 11, members of the force's Compliance, Repeat Offenders, Warrants (C.R.O.W.) Team executed a warrant at a residence in Mississauga and arrested David Munoz, 41, of Brampton.
He was held for a bail hearing and charged in connection with the incident. Police did not immediately specify the full list of charges.
The C.R.O.W. Team is a Peel Regional Police unit focused on locating people who are wanted on warrants and those who repeatedly fail to comply with court orders.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133.
