Whitby residents won't have to look far for something to do next month, with the Brooklin Spring Fair, the return of summer farmers' markets and a full slate of Seniors' Month, Bike Month and Pride Month events on the June calendar, according to the Town of Whitby.
Brooklin Spring Fair returns June 4 to 7
The biggest weekend in Brooklin runs Thursday, June 4 through Sunday, June 7 at the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena Grounds. The fair features midway rides, live entertainment, agricultural exhibits, a demolition derby, truck and tractor pulls and the traditional Saturday morning parade.
The town says full schedules and details are available at brooklinspringfair.com.
Seniors' Month events across town
June is also Seniors' Month in Whitby, with drop-in programming sponsored by Viva Whitby Shores Retirement Communities and Wellings of Whitby. Events include Meet the Artists on June 12, Tai Chi in the Park on June 16, the 55+ Extravaganza on June 19 and Yoga in the Park on June 23. Additional dates are posted at whitby.ca/Calendar.
Summer registration, splash pads open
June marks Recreation and Parks Month, and the town is urging residents to build a wish list ahead of summer program sign-ups. Aquatics registration for residents opens June 2 at 9 a.m., followed by summer recreation programs for residents on June 4 at 9 a.m. Non-residents can register starting June 10.
Free drop-in swims, skating and fitness sessions run throughout the month, and Whitby's splash pads are now open for the season. A full list of locations is available at whitby.ca/SplashPads.
Markets, bikes and Pride
The Whitby Farmers' Market is already running at Celebration Square, and the Brooklin Farmers' Market returns Saturday, June 13, operating weekly through October. Vendors offer local produce, baking and handmade goods.
For Bike Month, the town is hosting drop-in repair workshops covering basic maintenance such as inflating tires, adjusting brakes and gears and completing safety checks, with giveaways including bike bells and lights. Sessions run June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Whitby Public Library Central Branch at 405 Dundas St. W., and June 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along the Waterfront Trail at Rotary Sunrise Lake Park.
The Durham Pride Parade steps off June 6 at 10 a.m. On June 13 from 1 to 4 p.m., Youth Pride Durham takes place at Region of Durham Headquarters, a free family-friendly event featuring live performances, a magic show, a DJ, face painting and a community resource village.
Local Food Week and Canada Day
Local Food Week begins the first Monday in June. The town's Whitby Food Guide highlights local restaurants, cafés and specialty shops, and a new Whitby Brewery Passport encourages residents to explore craft breweries across town.
Looking further ahead, Canada Day festivities at Victoria Fields begin at 6 p.m. on July 1 with live music, family activities, food trucks and fireworks at dusk. The town notes ongoing harbour remediation work will affect parking and viewing areas at the south end of the fields.
Residents planning to attend events can check road closures and construction on the town's interactive map, and community groups can add their own events to whitby.ca/Calendar.
