The Town of Caledon has appointed Gino Alborino as its new Chief Information Officer, according to a Town of Caledon news release issued Aug. 11. He begins the role on Aug. 17, 2026.

As CIO, Alborino will head the Town's Information Technology, Communications and Customer Experience divisions, with a mandate to advance digital transformation that improves municipal services and the day-to-day experience of residents and businesses.

As the Town continues to grow and evolve in an increasingly digital world, strong leadership in technology, communications and customer service is essential. Gino brings an exceptional combination of strategic vision, innovation and operational excellence. His extensive experience leading digital transformation and modernizing public services will help the Town to better serve our growing community while enhancing the services residents rely on every day. We are excited to welcome him to our leadership team.

Steven Dickson, the Town's Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Legal Officer, made those remarks in the news release announcing the appointment.

A career built on modernizing public services

Alborino joins Caledon from Halton Region, where he served as Director of Digital Services and Data Management. There, he led enterprise digital transformation initiatives that modernized resident services, strengthened data-informed decision-making and improved operational efficiency across one of Ontario's largest regional municipalities, the release said.

He brings nearly three decades of municipal leadership experience in technology, digital transformation and customer service. His approach, the Town said, centres on using technology to simplify processes, improve customer experiences and support better decision-making across organizations, while building partnerships between departments to deliver resident-focused outcomes.

Alborino holds an Executive MBA in Digital Transformation from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology Management from Toronto Metropolitan University. He is currently completing the Chartered Director Program through McMaster's DeGroote School of Business.

His work has been recognized nationally through the IT World Canada Digital Disruptor Award and the MISA Canada Excellence in Municipal Systems Award, and he has served as a judge for Gartner's Eye on Innovation for Government Awards.

What it means for a growing Caledon

It is an honour to join the Town of Caledon at such an exciting point in its growth. I look forward to working alongside Council, staff, residents and community partners to deliver innovative, secure and accessible digital services that make it easier for people to interact with their local government while supporting the Town's long-term vision.

Alborino said in the news release that he sees the role as a chance to help Caledon modernize how people connect with their local government.

The appointment comes as Caledon, home to roughly 80,000 residents and 4,000 businesses, prepares for a period of rapid change. The Town projects it will grow to a city of 300,000 residents and 125,000 jobs by 2051, making it one of Ontario's fastest-growing communities. Town officials say strengthening digital services is a key part of its strategic priorities, which include environmental leadership, community vitality and livability, enhanced transportation and mobility, and service excellence and accountability.

Alborino's first day in the Caledon offices is Monday, Aug. 17.
