Residents and businesses in south Caledon and Mayfield West have a new fire station serving their growing neighbourhoods. Fire Station 310 has opened at 12357 Chinguacousy Road, according to a Town of Caledon news release issued May 11.
The town says the station will shorten emergency response times and address gaps in coverage across residential and industrial areas in Mayfield West and nearby communities. Its location is intended to support both established neighbourhoods and future development.
At approximately 15,000 square feet, the building includes three apparatus bays, training space, offices and firefighter accommodations. The town says the facility is designed to support daily operations, crew well-being and community training.
MP Ruby Sahota, Caledon Fire Chief Dave Pelayo and Mayor Annette Groves took part in the official opening.
Separate spaces designed to protect crews
The station’s layout keeps contaminated operational areas separate from the clean spaces where firefighters live and where administrative work takes place.
Specialized ventilation systems are intended to reduce firefighters’ exposure to harmful substances, including carcinogens. According to the town, those measures support safer day-to-day work and help protect crews’ health over the longer term.
Pelayo said the station gives firefighters space to train and rest, along with the equipment and support needed to respond to emergencies. He credited council, town staff and the community for supporting the project.
Solar power and electric building systems
Station 310 has a 100-kilowatt rooftop solar system connected through net metering. Its mechanical systems are fully electric and designed for high efficiency.
A smart building automation system is also intended to improve building performance and lower long-term operating costs. The town describes the station’s energy systems and building practices as part of its commitment to low-carbon, resilient infrastructure.
Groves said the project combines a low-carbon facility with improved emergency response. She credited council, municipal staff and community input with helping bring the station into service.
Chief administrative officer Nathan Hyde said the investment strengthens emergency services coverage as Caledon grows, supporting public safety services for residents and businesses.
The opening is part of a wider approach to meeting changing demands on Caledon Fire & Emergency Services. The town says that work includes capital investment, staffing enhancements and long-term planning for growth.
Caledon has close to 80,000 residents and 4,000 businesses, according to the release. The municipality is preparing for a population of 300,000 and 125,000 jobs by 2051, making expanded emergency coverage part of its planning for a substantially larger community.
