Drivers in Pelham will need to find another way around the CPKC Railway crossing on Chantler Road next week, as the Town of Pelham has announced a full closure between Balfour Street and Church Street for three days.
The closure runs from Monday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 a.m. until Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 5:00 p.m., according to a Town of Pelham notice. Crews will be carrying out railway maintenance at the crossing on behalf of CPKC Railway.
The town says the work requires a complete shutdown of the road at the tracks for the duration of the project, in order to keep both residents and railway work crews safe.
What residents need to know
Homes within the closed stretch of Chantler Road will not be cut off. The town says residents inside the closure limits will keep access to their properties throughout the maintenance period.
Detour signage will be posted to route through traffic around the closed section. Motorists who normally use Chantler Road as a connector between Balfour Street and Church Street should plan for extra travel time or an alternate route during the three-day window.
The closure only affects the segment of Chantler Road between the two streets. Work is scheduled to wrap up by Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., after which the crossing is expected to reopen to traffic.
Anyone with questions about the closure can reach the Town of Pelham at 905-892-2607 or through the contact form on its website.
