The City of Mississauga has been named to Forbes' list of Canada's Best Employers for the seventh year in a row.
The city announced the recognition on Tuesday, Jan. 20. It said it joins 30 other government organizations on the list and remains among the top municipalities to work for in the country.
How the list is made
The ranking is based on an independent survey of more than 37,000 employees at organizations with more than 500 staff in Canada.
A big workforce
The city employs more than 8,000 people across many professions at its busiest times of year. They run transit, libraries, recreation, fire services, road maintenance and more.
In its announcement, the city pointed to several things it offers staff:
career mobility, training and development opportunities
competitive benefits and a defined pension plan through OMERS
a culture that values recognition and supports well-being
a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
We’re proud to once again be named one of Canada’s Best Employers by Forbes. This recognition reinforces that the City of Mississauga is not only a great place to live, but also one of the best places to work in Canada.
— Mayor Carolyn Parrish
As Mississauga continues to grow, ensuring we have the right talent in place is essential to delivering high-quality programs and services that meet the evolving needs of our residents and businesses.
— Geoff Wright, city manager and chief administrative officer
Why it matters
The recognition comes as council reviews the proposed 2026 budget, where labour is one of the largest costs. At a Jan. 12 Budget Committee meeting, staff said labour costs include salary increases, union settlements and benefits, and that non-union salary increases have averaged about 2.5 per cent in recent years.
