City of Mississauga offices will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 30, as the municipality recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
Regular hours will resume on Thursday, Oct. 1, according to a City of Mississauga news release.
A day of remembrance
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the Indigenous children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors of those institutions, and the families and communities whose lives continue to be affected by that legacy.
As communities across Canada reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools, the City says it remains committed to advancing Reconciliation and increasing awareness and understanding within the community.
Ways to participate
In the lead-up to Sept. 30, the City will offer a range of educational initiatives and opportunities for learning, reflection and engagement, the release states.
Residents are encouraged to take part and deepen their understanding of the truth of Canada's residential school system and the ongoing journey toward Reconciliation.
What's open and closed
Details on what's open and closed on Sept. 30 are available on the City's website. Information on City programming is also posted on the municipality's webpage.
