The province has awarded a contract for the major construction of the new Grimsby GO Station, moving the long-awaited Niagara transit project one step closer to completion.

The announcement was made by the Province of Ontario on Thursday, according to a Town of Grimsby news release. Mayor Jeff Jordan and members of Grimsby town council joined Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff and Michael Lindsay, president and CEO of Metrolinx, for the announcement.

The station is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027. According to the release, it will give residents more convenient access to regional transit, reducing travel times to the nearest GO station by up to 30 minutes and supporting increased service along the Lakeshore West line.

First station under new provincial design standard

The Grimsby station will be the first GO Transit station built using Ontario's new standardized station design, which is intended to cut construction costs and speed up project delivery.

Early construction work began earlier this year. Current activity includes site grading, to be followed by excavation and platform foundation construction.

The station will strengthen connections between Niagara Region, Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area, creating new opportunities for residents, commuters, businesses and visitors.

The Town said improved transit connectivity will support residents, local businesses and Grimsby's long-term development as the community continues to grow.
