Construction has officially begun on a four-tower rental development in downtown Brampton that is expected to add close to 1,300 new homes to the city.

What's being built

The project, known as Rose Towers, will rise at 241 Queen St. E., within Brampton's Queen Street Corridor and just under two kilometres from Highway 410. It calls for four high-rise buildings standing between 26 and 30 storeys, delivering 1,290 units that will be designated entirely as rental housing.

Each building is set to include retail space at street level, with resident amenities planned for the second floor.

The developers said the suites will feature open-concept layouts aimed at modern renters. Common areas will include outdoor spaces, a fitness centre, lounges, BBQ areas and pet wash stations, along with three levels of underground parking.

Groundbreaking ceremony

Developers Skyline and Solmar Development Corp. marked the start of construction with a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said projects like Rose Towers “are critical to keeping pace with Brampton’s rapid growth.”

“Adding new rental housing along the Queen Street Corridor supports our long-term planning priorities and adds much-needed rental homes in a key urban area in our city,” Brown said in a press release.

A scaled-down plan

The approved design is smaller than what was first envisioned for the site. An earlier proposal called for four 35-storey towers containing more than 1,500 apartments, the developers said.

Skyline reports that it has already completed 600 apartments across Ontario, with another 1,350 currently under construction and more than 3,000 additional units planned in the pipeline.

No timeline for the towers' completion was included in the announcement.
