The County of Simcoe marked National Seniors Day on Oct. 1 by recognizing the individuals, businesses and organizations that are making the region a more inclusive and supportive place for older adults.

The honourees were named through the County's annual Age-Friendly Recognition Awards, which spotlight people and groups helping older residents age with dignity, connection and purpose.

Nominations were accepted over the summer and reviewed by the County's Age-Friendly Committee, according to a County of Simcoe news release. This year's honourees come from communities across the region, including the Towns of Collingwood, Midland, Wasaga Beach, Penetanguishene and New Tecumseth, the Township of Clearview, and the Cities of Barrie and Orillia.

A regional commitment to aging well

National Seniors Day, observed each year on Oct. 1, celebrates the contributions older adults make to families, workplaces and communities. The County said its awards reflect that same spirit by highlighting residents and organizations working to build a region where people can stay active and engaged as they age.

The County of Simcoe has been guided by the World Health Organization's Age-Friendly Communities framework since 2015. It recently launched a refreshed Positive Aging Strategy covering 2025 to 2030, and in 2025 was officially designated a member of the WHO Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities.

Through its Age-Friendly Program, the County works with municipalities, organizations, businesses and residents on initiatives aimed at improving quality of life for older adults across the region.
