Pickering students heading back to class next month can lock in a full school year of unlimited transit travel — and more than $200 in savings — through Durham Region Transit's discounted Y10 monthly youth pass.
The program, announced by the regional transit agency, is open to riders aged 13 to 19. Enrolment is open now, and the September pass goes on sale August 21, 2026, for $89.86. The pass activates September 1, 2026, according to Durham Region Transit.
How the savings work
Youth who buy a Y10 pass every month from September through June save $20.73 on each consecutive monthly pass, for a total of $207.30 over the school year, DRT said.
To qualify, customers must complete the Y10 enrolment form and purchase their first pass by September 10, 2026. Passes must then be bought each month to keep the discount going and maintain unlimited travel through June 30, 2027.
Buyers must present proof of age that shows their birth date when purchasing the pass in person.
What to watch out for
DRT cautions that the Y10 monthly pass is not available through the PRESTO e-ticket app. Riders who rely on that app for their fares will need to use another purchase method to take part in the program.
The transit agency says the pass is designed to make transit more affordable and accessible for young riders across Durham Region, including in Pickering, where DRT routes connect neighbourhoods to schools, GO Transit services and the Pickering Town Centre area.
