Durham Regional Police are marking three years since the shooting death of 17-year-old Anthony Dixon in Pickering by renewing their appeal for information in the unsolved homicide.
Officers from West Division were called to a shooting at a housing complex at 1580 Kingston Road on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at approximately 9:40 p.m., according to Durham Regional Police.
When officers arrived, they found a male suffering from gunshot wounds. Police and paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the victim, later identified as Dixon, died at the scene.
Investigators believe the shots were fired from a vehicle, which then fled the area.
No arrests have been announced in the case, and Thursday marks three years since the teen's death. Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has any information about what happened, to come forward.
The appeal comes as the homicide remains one of Durham Region's unsolved killings involving a young victim, and investigators say even small details from that evening could help move the case forward.
Police are specifically asking anyone with cell phone video, dash cam footage or surveillance footage from the area on the night of the shooting to review it and contact investigators.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Durham Regional Police Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520, extension 2444.
Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
Dixon's death in June 2023 prompted an outpouring of grief in the Pickering community, and police have periodically renewed calls for witnesses in the years since.
Residents with information about the vehicle seen in the area that night, or about anyone involved in the altercation preceding the shooting, are encouraged to reach out to investigators or Crime Stoppers.
