Drivers in Midland will face a longer wait at one of the town's busier intersections. According to the Town of Midland, the road closure at Eighth Street and Hugel Avenue has been extended until further notice because of ongoing water main work, and it could stay in effect until Friday, Oct. 16.

Local traffic is still being allowed through the area, but no through traffic is permitted. Detour signage will remain in place while the work continues, and the town says the Eighth Street Reconstruction Project page will be updated once the intersection reopens.

The closure is tied to the broader Eighth Street Reconstruction Project, which residents can follow on the town's website for updates on timing and next steps.

Voting remains open around the clock until election night

The same notice also confirmed details for Midland voters ahead of voting day on Monday, Oct. 26.

Internet and telephone voting is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until the close of voting day at 8 p.m., the Town of Midland said. Eligible voters can cast their ballot online or by phone from any location and at any time during the voting period, including from home or wherever internet or telephone service is available.

Electors who need help with the process are welcome to visit the Voter Assistance Centre for in-person support, the town said.

Residents planning to travel through the Eighth and Hugel area this week are advised to plan for detours and allow extra time until the intersection reopens.
