Flato Markham Theatre has laid out a March schedule that swings from impressionists and jazz standards to a children's show and contemporary dance, with a stage work featuring environmentalist David Suzuki among the headliners.
The shows continue the theatre's 2025/26 Diamond Season at 171 Town Centre Blvd. Acting general manager Scott Hill said the range is the point.
We have such a wide variety of incredible talent and activity this month. It's just very exciting.
— Scott Hill, acting general manager, Flato Markham Theatre
Theatre and choral music
On March 7, Toronto's Why Not Theatre presents What You Won't Do For Love, featuring Suzuki and his partner, Tara Cullis. The piece uses live performance, storytelling and multimedia to look back on their long marriage and their years as climate activists. A question-and-answer session follows the performance.
"Suzuki is one of the most respected and recognizable Canadians there is, full stop," Hill said. He added that the theatre was excited to host what he called Suzuki's first foray into live theatre.
The next afternoon, March 8, the Nathaniel Dett Chorale performs Walk Together, Children as a matinee. The program is rooted in Black spirituals and also takes in classical, gospel and blues repertoire.
Jazz, impressions and guitar
The month opens on March 6 with The 3 Impersonators, in which Martin Dube, Steeve Diamond and Sylvie Fortin work through more than 100 voices from popular music with a live band.
Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents: Great American Crooners follows on March 13, with singers Robbie Lee, Shenel Johns and Benny Benack III performing songs from the Great American Songbook, including Misty and Moon River.
Guitarist Mike Stern, whose resume includes work with Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius and the Brecker Brothers, brings his band to Markham on March 21, with drummer Dennis Chambers in the lineup.
Family show, film and dance
Fireside Munsch, a family show built on Robert Munsch's stories, plays twice on March 15, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Hill called it "a great, very affordable, chance to introduce a young person to the joy of theatre."
Markham at the Movies, the community film series, screens The Mother and the Bear on March 31. On April 1, Compagnie de la Citadelle presents Kudelka/Lemieux Mix, a contemporary dance program that includes original choreography by James Kudelka. Hill noted it is one of the theatre's $40 shows.
Tickets and full details are available through the theatre's website.
