Niagara Regional Police have arrested a Fort Erie man in connection with an aggravated assault that left a 23-year-old with facial injuries in Niagara Falls last month.
Edward Courty, 31, was arrested on October 7 and charged with aggravated assault, according to Niagara Regional Police Service. He was held for a bail hearing held the following day at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse on Church Street in St. Catharines.
What police say happened
Officers were called to the area of McLeod Road near Pin Oak Drive at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, after reports of a disturbance. They found a 23-year-old man with facial injuries, who was taken by Niagara Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators determined the victim had been walking southbound on Pin Oak Drive when he was confronted by the driver of a red Dodge Ram pickup truck as it tried to exit a business onto the street. According to police, the driver punched the victim several times with a closed fist before returning to his truck and fleeing.
Passenger still sought
The investigation is being handled by the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau, which covers Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Detectives say a passenger was seen in the truck at the time and are still asking for the public's help identifying him so they can speak with him.
Police thanked the public for the assistance they have already provided in the case.
