Peel Regional Police have arrested four people and recovered 10 stolen vehicles as part of an investigation into a vehicle registration fraud scheme connected to more than $100,000 in unpaid 407 ETR tolls.

The arrests were made by investigators with the service's Commercial Auto Crime Bureau, according to Peel Regional Police, who described the case as an investigation into a scheme involving fraudulent vehicle registrations.

Police say the recovered vehicles were linked to the scheme, which left more than $100,000 in tolls unpaid on Highway 407 ETR.

Other recent Peel police investigations

The toll fraud case is one of several investigations Peel police have highlighted in recent news releases affecting Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon residents.

Investigators from the Fraud Bureau are seeking the public's assistance with an ongoing criminal investigation involving a Mississauga law firm, Peel Regional Police said.

In a separate case, the Fraud Bureau arrested and charged a Brampton man following a four-month investigation into alleged fraudulent electrical contracting services provided to homeowners across Ontario.

Police have also reported recent progress on several violent-crime files. Investigators with the Major Collision Bureau arrested and charged a man following a fatal hit-and-run collision in Mississauga that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

Officers with the 21 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau seized two more illegal firearms and laid further charges following a traffic stop in Brampton in August, the result of an ongoing investigation.

The Major Crime Unit has also arrested and charged a suspect in an attempted murder investigation who had been wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for more than three years, police said.

Street racing enforcement

On the roads, investigators from the Safer Roads Team have arrested and charged a Toronto man following an investigation into organized street racing in Peel Region. The enforcement was carried out under Project ERASE — Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere.
