Award-winning tours depart from Mount Pleasant Village Branch
New Brampton residents can get to know their city for free next month. Brampton Library is running its Newcomer Bus Tour on Aug. 4 and Aug. 11, with no cost to participants, according to a Brampton Library announcement.
The tours are open to residents who moved to Brampton after Jan. 1, 2025. They are presented by Brampton Library in partnership with Brampton Transit, with sponsorship from Toronto Pearson.
This year's tours will start and end at the Mount Pleasant Village Branch Library at 100 Commuter Drive. The location is within walking distance of the Mount Pleasant GO Station and is served by GO trains, GO buses and Brampton Transit routes.
Residents who are not yet library members are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early to sign up for a free library card on site.
Space is limited, and the library is asking participants to register early. Spots can be reserved by calling 905-793-4636 or through the online events calendar on the Brampton Library website. Anyone attending as a family or group must register each guest individually.
The program has picked up recognition over the years. Brampton Library and Brampton Transit's tour won the Angus Mowat Award for Excellence in Public Library Service in 2015, the American Public Library Association's Upstart Innovation Award in 2017, and an award from the Canadian Urban Transit Association.
More summer offerings at the library
The bus tours are part of a broader summer lineup at Brampton Library, which operates nine branches across the city along with its online services.
Summer Reading Clubs for kids, teens and adults are open for registration until Sept. 8. Participants can complete challenges and enter bi-weekly and grand prize draws.
The library's summer issue of its Inspiring Connections magazine lists programs for all ages, and additional events can be found through the online calendar. A free Brampton Library card can be applied for online or in person at any branch.
