The Town of Grimsby has earned national recognition for its human resources work, including employee development, recruitment and workplace initiatives that the municipality says support service to the community.
According to a Town of Grimsby news release, the municipality received an Excellence Awardee designation in the Excellence in HR Team Performance category for organizations with fewer than 500 employees at the 2026 Canadian HR Awards.
Grimsby was one of 10 organizations across Canada recognized in that category. The group included employers from both the private and public sectors, rather than municipalities alone.
The town said its HR team was recognized for work on employee engagement, workplace culture, leadership development, recruitment, performance management and internal communication.
Among the initiatives cited were the implementation of the town’s People Strategy and the creation of an internal HR Hub. The municipality also introduced tools for employee communication and engagement, strengthened recruitment practices and expanded development opportunities for staff and leaders.
Other efforts included changes to how the town presents itself as an employer, along with a renewed emphasis on employee wellness and performance management.
The award category assesses HR teams’ leadership, collaboration and contributions to organizational performance. The town was celebrated as an Excellence Awardee at the Canadian HR Awards Gala.
The municipality described the designation as its second national recognition for human resources work. It also credited employees and leaders across the organization for contributing to the initiatives.
In the news release, Mayor Jeff Jordan praised the HR team and other municipal employees involved. He said the recognition showed that a community’s size need not limit its ability to develop workplace practices.
Chief Administrative Officer Sarah Kim linked the town’s investment in staff to its ability to deliver services. She said the recognition reflected partnerships across the municipality and the contributions of its employees and leaders.
The town identifies its People Strategy as part of its effort to develop an inclusive workplace and support employees in their work for residents, businesses and visitors.
