A Highway 427 connector ramp in Etobicoke is open again after an overnight collision left five people in hospital, one of them with life-threatening injuries.
The northbound Highway 427 ramp to Highway 401 westbound reopened at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Overnight collision snarled morning commute
Police say the crash happened at about 3:30 a.m., when two vehicles collided on the ramp.
Five people were taken to hospital. One of them was reported to be in life-threatening condition.
The closure tied up traffic through the morning rush in the area, with drivers forced to find alternate routes around one of the busiest interchange ramps in the Greater Toronto Area.
Commuters advised to plan ahead
The 427-401 interchange is among the most heavily travelled connections in the GTA highway network, linking Pearson-area traffic with Highway 401's westbound lanes toward Mississauga and points beyond.
Delays lingered in the area even after the ramp was cleared, as backed-up traffic worked its way through surrounding collector and express lanes.
No further details about the collision, including the cause or the conditions of those injured, have been released by police.
Drivers are reminded to check Ontario 511 or their navigation apps before heading out, as incident-related delays on provincial highways can change quickly.
