Pedestrian-only festival zone takes over downtown core
Whitby's Home Sweet Home Festival returns on Saturday, July 25, transforming Downtown Whitby into a pedestrian-friendly celebration of local people, places and experiences, according to a Town of Whitby news release.
The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with portions of the downtown core closed to vehicle traffic to create a walkable, pedestrian-only festival zone for the day.
What to expect on the streets
The signature summer event showcases what makes Whitby a good place to live, work and explore, the Town said, spotlighting local businesses, community groups and downtown destinations.
Organizers are encouraging visitors to plan their trip in advance, since parking in the event area will be limited.
Getting there: shuttle, closures and parking
A free shuttle will run between the Henry Street Parking Lot and the festival, dropping off passengers at the Whitby Public Library on the west side of the event site. Shuttles will run every 10 minutes from 9:50 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.
There will be no on-street parking within the event area, and all parking meters in the downtown event zone will be unavailable during the festival. Municipal Lot 1, next to the Whitby Legion, will be closed for event use, though the Town says alternative municipal parking lots will be available nearby.
Visitors are being encouraged to park at the Henry Street Parking Lot and take the free shuttle to the event.
Plan ahead
The Town is directing residents to the festival webpage at whitby.ca/HomeSweetHomeFestival for updates and maps as the event approaches. TD Canada Trust is the lead sponsor of this year's festival.
