Markham residents who use York University's Markham Campus should plan ahead: the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy is coming to the city from Aug. 14 to 16, and the campus sits inside the event footprint.
Setup and related activity will begin the week of Aug. 10, according to YFile, York University's news service. During that period, access to Markham Campus will be limited and campus operations will shift to remote delivery wherever possible.
Only approved personnel supporting building operations and Indy-related activities will be allowed on site while the restrictions are in place, YFile reported.
What changes to expect
Several campus services will be affected during the race period.
Shuttle service to Markham Campus will end its route at 38 Simcoe Promenade rather than reaching the campus itself. The Remington parking lot will be unavailable, and food services on campus will be closed for the duration of the disruption.
Members of the York community who need to visit the campus that week are advised to make arrangements in advance, as in-person access will not be possible for most people.
The temporary measures are tied directly to the race weekend. With the Indy taking place Aug. 14 to 16 and setup beginning the week before, the campus is expected to return to normal operations once event activities wrap up.
