Race fans heading to the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham this weekend will see all of Friday's on-track action shifted to Saturday after organizers postponed the opening day's sessions.

In a statement posted to the event's website on the evening of Aug. 14, organizers said safety considerations and the certification process for the brand-new racetrack delayed all on-track activities on Friday.

What happened Friday

The statement said ensuring driver safety and completing certification for the new circuit were behind the delay. It did not indicate when, or whether, any cars turned laps on Friday.

Organizers thanked fans who attended, calling the turnout and support "overwhelming." No details were given on attendance figures.

Revised Saturday schedule

Friday's sessions have been rescheduled to Saturday, Aug. 15, to allow for further track preparations, according to the statement on the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy website.

The revised schedule has been posted at hondaindy.com/schedule. Gates open to spectators at 8:30 a.m. ET.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES qualifying will run at the end of the day, followed by the SiriusXM Concert featuring The Glorious Sons.

The event is being run by Green Savoree Toronto, ULC, according to the statement.

Organizers are asking fans to follow the event's website and social media channels for updates through the rest of the race weekend.
