Drivers who cross Hurontario Street at Traders Boulevard will need another route for the next month. Crews building the Hazel McCallion Line began track rework at the intersection at 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, and Metrolinx says the work will run until 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19.

In its construction notice, Metrolinx said the rework is needed to make sure the future light rail vehicles can operate safely. Crews will be installing track and pouring concrete, and the work may continue 24 hours a day until it is finished.

What's closed

  • Eastbound and westbound traffic cannot cross Hurontario at Traders Boulevard and Aldridge Street.

  • Left turns from Hurontario onto Traders Boulevard or Aldridge Street are not allowed.

  • Left turns from Traders Boulevard or Aldridge Street onto Hurontario are not allowed.

  • Emergency vehicles will not be able to cross Hurontario at the intersection.

Metrolinx said detours are available using Milverton Drive, Watline Avenue, Sandstone Drive and Brunel Road. Pedestrians can still cross at a signalized crosswalk, traffic signal timing will be adjusted, and access to properties will be maintained. The agency warned that schedules can change because of weather.

Bus riders

Bus routes in the area will be affected, and boarding spots may move while the work is underway. Metrolinx is directing MiWay riders to miway.ca/updates and Brampton Transit riders to the City of Brampton's transit page for route changes.

Deepak Anand, MPP for Mississauga-Malton, shared the closure details on Tuesday. He urged drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted detours, and asked pedestrians and cyclists to take care in the area.

Lane limits in the south end until summer

Commuters farther south should also expect slower trips. A separate Metrolinx notice says lane and turning restrictions will stay on Hurontario Street between Mineola Road and Pinetree Way from January until late summer 2026, while crews build the guideway, lay and weld track, and work on stops.

Traffic in that stretch will be cut to one lane in each direction, with daily closures of either the inner northbound or inner southbound lane. Work is scheduled Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A new signalized intersection will be built at Pinewood Trail and Indian Valley Trail.

As the guideway goes in down the centre of the road, some turning changes become permanent. Left turns and U-turns along that section will only be allowed at signalized intersections, and driveways will operate as right-in, right-out.
