Toronto and Mississauga families planning March Break outings have options ranging from a free evening light exhibition to museum workshops and a virtual visit to the International Space Station, with several programs starting this weekend.

According to Toronto Guardian’s March Break roundup, activities across the area include artmaking at the Art Gallery of Ontario, engineering experiments at the CN Tower and family performances running through the school holiday.

Outdoor art and hands-on workshops

At Trillium Park at Ontario Place, the free Lumière outdoor exhibition runs from 6 to 11 p.m. Works by Ontario artists explore motion, sound and time. The park’s firepit is available Friday and Saturday evenings and nightly during March Break, weather permitting.

Winter Stations remains at Woodbine Beach until March 30. The installations use waterfront lifeguard towers as their starting points, with this year’s Mirage theme examining perception.

The AGO’s March Break programming runs March 14 to 22. Activities include scavenger hunts, games and artmaking inspired by Paul McCartney’s Photographs 1963–64: Eye of the Storm. Children can make paper cameras and film strips featuring imagined photographs.

Little Canada, at 10 Dundas Street East, offers a miniature-tree workshop March 16 to 22 for an additional $10. Participants can take their tree home or leave it for future placement in the attraction. Each tree made also supports planting a real tree in Canada through One Tree Planted.

The CN Tower’s March 16 to 20 activities focus on engineering. Visitors can build and test paper gliders, assemble electrical circuits, make structures with building materials and experiment with balloon-powered rockets.

Stage shows and indoor exhibitions

Young People’s Theatre is presenting Love You Forever and More Munsch until March 21. The production adapts five Robert Munsch stories, including The Paper Bag Princess and Mortimer. The National Ballet of Canada’s Pinocchio runs March 13 to 22.

Casa Loma’s Imagine Dragons program runs March 14 to 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The family experience includes theatrical performances, interactive storytelling and a route through the castle’s underground tunnel to the stables.

At the Royal Ontario Museum, the SHARKS exhibition remains open until March 22. Interactive displays and life-sized models examine shark anatomy, behaviour, habitats and conservation threats.

In Mississauga, Space Explorers: THE INFINITE is at GYGO Canada in the Square One Shopping District, at 99 Rathburn Rd. W. The virtual-reality experience takes visitors inside and outside the International Space Station, depicting daily life in orbit and spacewalks.
