The Markham-Milliken Children's Festival returns this Saturday, Sept. 12, bringing a full day of free family activities to the grounds outside the Aaniin Community Centre.

One of the largest annual children's festivals in Ontario, the event runs from 10 AM to 6:30 PM and features free family-friendly activities, interactive experiences and live entertainment, according to a City of Markham news release issued Monday.

The festival is presented by Tim Hortons. The city describes the day as a fun-filled celebration of childhood, with a range of hands-on activities and main stage programming scheduled throughout the event.

Mayor calls it an annual tradition

"The Markham-Milliken Children's Festival is an annual tradition filled with fun, excitement and the chance to create unforgettable family memories," said City of Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. "It's an opportunity for families to connect, and for kids to enjoy themselves and celebrate all that makes Markham a vibrant and welcoming community."

Beyond the free offerings, families can buy Play-All-Day passes for unlimited access to attractions including giant inflatables, carnival games and a trackless train. Advance passes cost $10 plus HST online, with the price rising to $15 plus HST on the day of the festival.

A limited-quantity Millie Doll and Play-All-Day Bundle is also being sold. It pairs a Play-All-Day wristband with a Millie plush toy for $30 plus HST with an advance online purchase — a higher price than the day-of rate, which drops to $20 plus HST at the festival while supplies last.

Details for families planning ahead

The festival site is outside the Aaniin Community Centre, located in Markham's east end. The full main stage schedule and activity details are posted on the Children's Festival event page at markham.ca.

Visitors looking to save on rides and games can order Play-All-Day passes online before Saturday. Pass holders get unlimited access to the inflatable and carnival attractions for the duration of the festival.

The festival has been recognized with awards, the city noted, and draws families from across Markham and York Region each year.

Markham is home to more than 370,000 residents and is the largest of nine communities in York Region, according to the city.
