Applications are now open for the Markham-Thornhill Constituency Youth Council, offering local students and young adults a way to bring their ideas forward on the issues that shape their community.

The call for applications was published Tuesday, Sept. 22, on the website of Tim Hodgson, the Member of Parliament for Markham-Thornhill.

According to the announcement posted on Tim Hodgson's website, the council is a non-partisan group that brings together young people from across the riding to discuss important issues, meet community leaders, learn about government and contribute ideas that could help shape conversations about the future.

The program is intended to give young residents a meaningful voice in their community and to provide opportunities for civic engagement, the announcement said.

The post opens with a direct question for prospective applicants: "Have an idea you want to share?" It goes on to encourage applications from young people who are passionate about housing, jobs, mental health, climate action, technology or the future of the community.

For those who take part, the council is described as an opportunity to connect with peers, develop leadership skills, learn more about Canada's democratic process and share perspectives on the issues that matter to them.

The announcement closes with a message aimed at the riding's younger residents. "We look forward to hearing from the next generation of leaders in Markham-Thornhill," it says.

The post did not include application deadlines, eligibility criteria, meeting schedules or other program details.

Young people interested in the topics highlighted in the announcement — from housing and employment to mental health, climate and technology — can find the application notice on the MP's website.
