Midland residents planning errands or outings on Thanksgiving Day should plan around a series of municipal closures on Monday, Oct. 12.

Mid-Pen Transit will not run at all that day, the Town of Midland said in a notice posted to its website. Anyone who relies on the intercommunity bus service will need to make alternate arrangements.

The Bourgeois Community Centre will also be closed for the holiday, as will Midland Town Hall at 575 Dominion Avenue.

What stays open, and what to do in an emergency

While the town hall office is shuttered, the municipality notes that online services remain available to residents who need to handle town business from home.

For after-hours emergencies involving town services — including water, sewer and roads — the town is directing residents to call 705-526-4275 and follow the voice prompts.

Waste collection unaffected, but most drop-off sites closed

Curbside pickup will not shift because of the holiday. The town says there is no change to Simcoe County's waste collection schedule for Thanksgiving Day.

However, most County waste drop-off facilities will be closed on Monday, Oct. 12. Residents with items that can't go to the curb are advised to hold onto them or check facility hours before heading out.

The town is also pointing residents to Simcoe County's Thanksgiving Day services reminder for full details on waste facilities, LINX Transit and other County services affected by the holiday.

Seasonal closures now in effect

In an update to the notice posted on Oct. 9, the town added that the splash pad and park washrooms have been closed for the season, giving residents a complete picture of which facilities are available as the weather turns.

Midland is one of several Simcoe County communities that scale back municipal operations on the statutory holiday. Residents in Barrie, Orillia and other parts of the county can check their own municipal websites for local holiday schedules.

Normal service levels are expected to resume on Tuesday, Oct. 13, according to the town's notice.
