A busy Midland intersection will be shut down for nearly two days next week as crews carry out watermain work.
The intersection of Hugel Avenue and Eighth Street will be fully closed from Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 a.m. until Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m., according to a Town of Midland notice.
What drivers need to know
The closure is tied to watermain work that is part of the Eighth Street Reconstruction Project. Local traffic will be allowed through the area, but drivers should not expect to be able to pass straight through the intersection.
Detour signage will be posted to route vehicles around the closed intersection, the town said.
Residents with questions about this project or other roadwork across Midland can find details at midland.ca/roadwork.
Timing coincides with start of voting period
The closure begins the same day Midland voters can start casting their ballots in this fall's municipal election.
Internet and telephone voting opens Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. and will be available around the clock until voting day closes on Oct. 26 at 8 p.m., the town's notice states.
Eligible voters can cast a ballot online or by phone from any location and at any time during the voting period, whether from home or anywhere with an internet or telephone connection.
That means residents affected by the intersection closure will not need to travel to a polling station to take part in the election during the roadwork window.
