Mississauga musicians have until Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m. to submit their songs for a chance to be featured on the City's Music 311 playlist — and to collect a $300 payment if selected.
The program will choose 12 songs that showcase the range of styles, genres and voices in Mississauga's music community, according to a City of Mississauga news release. Each selected artist receives $300, along with promotion on the City's website and its social media channels.
The idea behind Music 311 is to turn routine City touchpoints into chances for residents to discover local music. The City's 311 customer service line receives as many as 950 calls a day and roughly 250,000 calls a year, meaning selected songs could be heard by thousands of callers while they wait to speak with a representative.
Where the songs will play
Beyond the phone hold music, chosen tracks will also be featured on City Council livestreams, on MiWay customer information lines and across other City channels, the release said.
For local artists, that means exposure in some of the most ordinary moments of civic life — a bus rider calling for route information, a resident waiting on hold with a service question, or a viewer streaming a council meeting from home.
