Once the snowbanks shrink, there is plenty to get out for. The City of Mississauga released its saugaLIVE lineup for February and March on Tuesday, with concerts, films, comedy and family shows at its theatres. The city says parking is free during event times and tickets are priced with families in mind.
Thursday, Feb. 12: REEL Thursdays, Jazz from Detroit
The Living Arts Centre's film series, run with Film Circuit and presented by TIFF, screens The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit. The documentary looks at how the city's musicians shaped jazz, and at Detroit's rise and decline as an industrial power.
Saturday, Feb. 14: the Dreamboats
The Canadian quartet brings An Evening of Rock n' Romance to the Living Arts Centre on Valentine's Day, built around the sounds of the 1950s and '60s.
Monday, Feb. 16: Family Day with the Jungle Book
A stage version of Rudyard Kipling's Mowgli stories uses video, shadow play and original music. It is an original adaptation of Kipling's stories, not the Disney version. The city says there will also be activities across downtown Mississauga that day.
Sunday, Feb. 22: a Louis Prima tribute
Meadowvale Theatre hosts Jump, Jive & Wail, with Rocco Continenza and the Testifiers, an eight-piece band, playing Louis Prima favourites.
Thursday, March 12: a film and a comedy night
REEL Thursdays screens Out Standing, about Sandra Perron, Canada's first woman infantry officer. The same night, A Perfectly Reasonable Night of Comedy reunites Peter Oldring and Pat Kelly of CBC Radio's This is That with Carolyn Taylor of Baroness von Sketch Show.
Saturday, March 14: Under the Stars
Actors and puppets retell Hansel and Gretel in a family show presented with Crane Creations at the Living Arts Centre.
