Some of Mississauga's youngest orchestral players will take on the grand repertoire of opera this Sunday, when the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra presents The Opera Experience at the Living Arts Centre.

The concert on March 1 at 3 p.m. features well-known overtures and arias by some of the genre's major composers. The orchestra pitches the afternoon as an introduction to opera that should suit longtime fans and first-timers alike.

Three young soloists

On Thursday, the orchestra introduced the three singers who will join it on stage, all with ties to the Royal Conservatory in Toronto.

Soprano Daniela Carreon Herrera, from Mexico, is completing an Artist Diploma in Voice at the Royal Conservatory. She won third prize at the seventh Linus Lerner International Voice Competition and has sung roles including Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Musetta in La Bohème and Pamina in The Magic Flute, performing in Europe, Mexico, Canada and the United States.

Tenor Nicholas Kluftinger has appeared in operas and recitals at the Glenn Gould School and took part in the 2025 Franz-Schubert-Institut in Austria. He is a finalist in the 2026 TCO Macina competition and has received scholarships from the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation and the Thomas Logan Vocal Scholarships.

Baritone Tyler Prince is in the third year of the Glenn Gould School's Bachelor of Music program on a full-tuition scholarship. An alumnus of the Canadian Children's Opera Company, he is also a jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and pianist, and has performed at the Living Arts Centre before, along with Koerner Hall and Roy Thomson Hall.

Tickets

Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for children, or $100 for a family of four, plus fees. They are sold through Ticketmaster and the city's ticket office at 905-306-6000, and the orchestra notes that heated parking is free.
