A 42-year-old Mississauga woman has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing on Dundas Street East on Sunday left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

Officers were called to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, after reports of a stabbing outside a Mississauga shelter, Peel Regional Police said.

When police arrived, they found an adult male with a serious stab wound to his neck. He was rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators from the 12 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau initially arrested a man who had been involved in an earlier altercation with the victim. As the investigation continued, however, officers determined he was not responsible for the stabbing and he was released.

Suspect arrested the next day

On Monday, September 7, police located and arrested Lorena Sanchez, 42, of Mississauga. She has been charged with attempted murder and was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
