Riding MiWay costs more as of Jan. 1, and several bus routes change on Monday, Jan. 5.

The city says the higher cash fare is meant to encourage riders to switch to PRESTO and to harmonize all cash fares paid on MiWay. The cash fare is now $4.50 for adults, seniors and youth alike, while children continue to ride free. The new fares are:

  • Adult, senior and youth cash fare: $4.50

  • Adult PRESTO single fare: $3.50

  • Youth PRESTO single fare: $2.90

  • Adult PRESTO monthly pass: $145

  • Adult Affordable Transit Program PRESTO monthly pass: $72.50

PRESTO also gives riders free transfers between MiWay and the TTC, GO Transit, Brampton Transit, York Region Transit and Durham Region Transit under Ontario's One Fare Program.

Seniors 65 and older can still ride MiWay free with a PRESTO card set to the senior fare type. The fare type can be set at a customer service outlet with proof of age. PRESTO cards without a fare type set are charged the $3.50 adult fare.

More buses on Route 109

Starting Jan. 5, Route 109 Meadowvale Express will run more often to meet demand. On weekdays, buses will come every 15 minutes or better from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., down from up to 20 minutes, and every 20 minutes or better from 6 to 10 p.m., down from up to 25 minutes. On weekends, service will run every 20 minutes from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., down from up to 32 minutes.

Route 35 Eglinton revised near Ridgeway Plaza

Route 35 Eglinton currently runs only westbound between Ninth Line and Ridgeway Drive, with eastbound buses using Erin Centre Boulevard and Tenth Line. The revised route will run in both directions along Eglinton Avenue and Ninth Line, with three new bus stops (#3454, #3452 and #3453) near Ridgeway Plaza.

Eastbound Route 35 buses will no longer serve stops on Erin Centre Boulevard and Tenth Line. MiWay suggests riders in that area use the new Route 35 stops or existing stop #3518, or take Route 9 Rathburn or Route 46 Tenth Line.
