Mississauga transit riders will have a new way to catch a GO train this summer. Starting June 29, MiWay Route 51 Tomken will be extended to serve Dixie GO station, according to a City of Mississauga news release.
The extension gives riders a direct connection to GO trains on the Milton Line, making it easier to travel into Toronto for work or leisure, the city said.
Passengers using the extended route can board Route 51 at Platform 4, stop number 3461, at Dixie GO station. Saturday service on the route will also improve as part of the June 29 changes.
School routes pause for summer
The city said regular 300-series school routes will not operate over the summer break. In their place, six summer school routes will run from July 6 to July 31, along with added trips on some existing routes, to serve students attending summer school.
Regular secondary school service is scheduled to return on Tuesday, September 8.
Ridership drives scheduling
MiWay tracks ridership on each route to match service to demand, the city said. When fewer customers ride a route, service levels are adjusted, which can mean less frequent buses.
That approach, the city explained, frees up resources for busier routes, helping to add capacity and ease overcrowding. As part of the June 29 changes, a number of routes will operate at reduced frequency.
MiWay will also adjust schedules on some routes throughout the summer to keep buses running on time as traffic conditions and demand shift. The city said more updates could follow.
Fares and connections
The city is encouraging riders to take advantage of connections between MiWay and GO Transit, which allow free transfers with a PRESTO card.
It also pointed to the cost of driving, suggesting riders can save on fuel by leaving their cars at home and using the bus instead.
