A motorcycle rider is fighting for his recovery after a serious early-morning crash in Halton Hills that has drawn in Halton Regional Police's collision reconstruction team.

Halton Regional Police said officers were called to the area of Steeles Avenue and Fifth Line shortly after 3:43 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, after a report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle.

According to Halton Regional Police, a red Honda motorcycle was heading westbound on Steeles Avenue when it left the roadway. The rider sustained what police described as life-altering injuries and was taken to a trauma centre outside the region.

Reconstruction unit takes over

Police said the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Because of how seriously the rider was hurt, the Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken charge of the case.

No other vehicles were mentioned in the initial account, and police have not said whether speed, alcohol or road conditions played a role.

Police appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage

Investigators are asking anyone who saw the collision, or who was driving on Steeles Avenue between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. and noticed the motorcycle being ridden beforehand, to come forward.

Halton Regional Police also want to hear from anyone with dash camera footage that may have captured the motorcycle in the moments before it left the road.

Witnesses can reach the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747, extension 5065, or by email at CRU@haltonpolice.ca.

Steeles Avenue runs along the northern edge of Halton Hills, forming part of the boundary between Halton Region and Peel Region, an area many GTA commuters travel daily.

No further details, including the rider's age or current condition, have been released. Anyone with information is urged to contact police directly.
