Niagara Falls residents can give their jack-o'-lanterns one last moment in the spotlight next month at the city's annual Pumpkin Trail.
The City of Niagara Falls is inviting residents to bring their Halloween pumpkins to Firemen's Park on Sunday, November 1, for the event, which this year features a new Pumpkin Spirit Decorating Competition, according to a City of Niagara Falls media release.
Carved pumpkins can be dropped off between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. to help form a glowing trail through the park. From 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., families, friends and neighbours are welcome to walk the illuminated display and take in the community's Halloween creations one final time.
New decorating competition open to residents
Residents who want to show off their pumpkin-decorating skills can register for the new competition. Entries must be registered by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, and participants must bring their completed pumpkins to Firemen's Park between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. on the day of the event.
Shortlisted entries will be displayed along the Pumpkin Trail, where visitors can vote in person for their favourites. Only pumpkins dropped off at the event will be eligible for recognition, the city said.
Residents do not need to enter the competition to contribute a pumpkin to the trail — anyone can drop off a carved pumpkin during the afternoon window to add to the display.
Registration and more information are available through the city's Pumpkin Trail event page at niagarafalls.ca. Residents with questions can contact Michelle Nicholls, community recreation coordinator for special events with the City of Niagara Falls, by email at mnicholls@niagarafalls.ca.
Firemen's Park is located in Niagara Falls. The event runs rain or shine, with the trail lit from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
