Niagara Health is mourning Sarah Jane Paton, a health-care worker who served at its Welland and Marotta hospital sites and is among six people presumed dead after an air ambulance crashed off the coast of Massachusetts.
105-1 The River reported that the crash happened over the weekend. Flags at Niagara Health have been lowered to half-mast in recognition of Paton’s loss.
According to Niagara Health, Paton had worked in the intensive care unit at Marotta Family Hospital since 2021. Before joining that unit, she worked at the Welland hospital.
In its remembrance, Niagara Health described a colleague whose generosity extended to the everyday needs of those working alongside her. Co-workers recalled that she put others first and regularly had snacks to share.
They also remembered her optimism and the candy she kept in her locker for colleagues who needed a lift after a long shift. Their recollections highlighted both her energy and the steady presence she brought to the workplace.
Niagara Health said Paton continually sought opportunities to improve herself. Becoming a flight nurse, the organization said, was work in which she had found her calling.
