Niagara residents can contribute to the Niagara Regional Police annual Spring Food Drive at grocery stores in Pelham, Port Colborne and Fort Erie today, with all three locations collecting donations until 3 p.m.
The campaign begins Monday, May 11, and continues through Thursday, Niagara Daily News reported. It brings together police, local food banks, grocery stores and Post Foods Canada to help address food insecurity in the region.
Monday’s collection locations are Food Basics in Pelham, Sobeys in Port Colborne and No Frills in Fort Erie. Those three stores are the opening stops for the week’s regional drive.
The broader campaign involves 10 local food banks and 13 grocery stores, along with Post Foods Canada. Donations collected through the drive benefit the participating food banks.
Over the past five years, the annual initiative has collected more than 73,000 pounds of food and more than $50,000, according to Niagara Daily News.
Those figures reflect the drive’s previous five years of collections, rather than a fundraising target or donations received so far during this year’s campaign.
