Caledon residents planning to run for municipal council or school board trustee in this fall’s election can now file their nomination papers, with a deadline of 2 p.m. on August 21. Caledon Citizen reported that nominations opened on Friday, May 1.
Election day is Monday, October 26, 2026. Caledon voters will use paper ballots to choose a mayor, six councillors, two regional councillors and school board trustees for the 2026–2030 term.
The nomination period is separate from an individual candidate’s campaign period. According to the report, a candidate’s campaign officially starts when the municipal clerk receives their nomination.
First nomination appointments
The first appointments on opening day were scheduled for 9 a.m. Heather French, a candidate for Ward 4, mayoral candidate Christina Early and school board trustee candidate Paula Dametto-Giovannozzi secured those initial time slots, the Citizen reported.
The report also identified Dametto-Giovannozzi as having filed for a school board trustee position in its update as of the morning of Wednesday, May 6. It did not specify which board’s trustee position she is seeking.
Council and school board seats
The municipal ballot will cover both town and regional representation. Along with the mayor, voters will elect six ward councillors and two regional councillors.
School board trustee positions are available for the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. The election also includes one trustee position for each of the two French-language school boards.
With the filing window continuing until August 21, the candidates identified during the opening week are not a final election lineup. Further nominations can be submitted over the coming months.
Residents following the races can find nomination updates on the Town of Caledon’s election webpage as they are posted.
