Toronto residents have until Feb. 1 to nominate a non-profit organization for the 2026 Toronto Community Champion Award, which recognizes groups supporting residents and building more inclusive communities.
Nominations opened Jan. 6, according to a City of Toronto news release. The City runs the annual award program in partnership with United Way of Greater Toronto.
The program focuses on organizations serving Indigenous, Black and other equity-deserving groups. It recognizes the contributions of community organizations that help strengthen Toronto and support the people who live here.
Residents can draw on their own lived or living experiences when putting an organization forward, highlighting the difference a non-profit has made in their community.
How to submit a nomination
The nomination deadline is 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, Feb. 1. Residents can submit nominations and find more information through the City’s award webpage at toronto.ca/communitychampion.
The Jan. 6 announcement does not set out detailed eligibility requirements or selection criteria. Residents looking for those details can consult the award webpage before submitting a nomination.
A panel of community leaders will review the nominations. Award recipients will be announced and honoured at a ceremony on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Launched in 2023, the Community Champion Award provides annual recognition for the work of Toronto community organizations. This year’s nomination period gives residents an opportunity to bring attention to non-profits whose contributions they have experienced.
