One person is dead after a shooting at a Brampton intersection on Thursday evening, and the suspect had already left the scene by the time officers arrived, according to Peel Regional Police.

Police were called to Sandalwood Parkway and Crown Victoria Drive at around 7:10 p.m. after reports of a shooting in the area.

Paramedics assessed the victim at the scene, but the person was pronounced dead.

No suspect description or possible motive has been released. Police have not said whether they are searching for a specific individual or how many people may have been involved.

The investigation is in its early stages. Officers are expected to remain in the area as they gather evidence and canvass for witnesses, and motorists and residents may notice a police presence near the intersection in the coming days.
