Ottawa city council has approved plans that would add nearly 750 new homes across the city, while also green-lighting steps toward an expanded park in Little Italy.
The approvals came at council's meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to a post on Stittsville Coun. Glen Gower's website.
401 homes planned near St. Laurent Station
Council approved plans for a new 30-storey mixed-use building on St. Laurent Boulevard, north of Queen Mary Street.
The building is set to bring 401 new homes along with ground-floor commercial space. Its location puts future residents within walking distance of St. Laurent Station, offering easy access to transit and everyday services.
The development would also include new tree-planting areas intended to improve the streetscape of the surrounding neighbourhood.
347-home subdivision coming to Hazeldean Road
Council also approved a zoning amendment to allow a new subdivision on Hazeldean Road near Mantra Street, in Stittsville.
The developer plans to build 347 homes on the site, with a mix of detached houses, townhomes and apartment-style units.
The amendment protects open space along the Carp River and supports future pathways that would connect nearby neighbourhoods.
Construction cannot begin until required site work is finished and floodplain mapping for the area has been updated.
McCann Park set to grow through land exchange
In a separate decision, council approved a motion to waive demolition fees for three homes on Pamilla Street in Little Italy.
The demolitions are tied to a planned land exchange between the property owner and the city, which would result in the expansion of McCann Park.
The added land would be used to increase the size of the community park, providing more public greenspace and recreational opportunities for residents in the area.
