Ottawa police laid 31 charges during a targeted traffic enforcement operation in Orleans on Thursday evening, part of an ongoing response to resident complaints about dangerous and disruptive driving in the east-end community.
Officers from the Road Safety Unit and the East District Traffic Unit carried out the blitz on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 8, according to the Ottawa Police Service. The operation focused on aggressive driving, excessive speeding and nuisance driving following concerns raised by residents.
Enforcement took place throughout the Orleans area, including at Fallingbrook Mall on Tenth Line Road. Police say a weekly vehicle gathering at the mall has been associated in recent weeks with reports of dangerous driving. Approximately 20 vehicles attended Thursday evening, and no incidents were reported on the property.
In total, officers laid 27 Provincial Offence Notices and four Part III court summonses, for a combined 31 charges.
The charges covered a range of offences, including speeding, unnecessary noise, using a hand-held communication device while driving, and various vehicle documentation and equipment violations.
The operation is part of the police service's #ResidentsMatter initiative, which directs enforcement toward community concerns raised by people who live and work in affected neighbourhoods.
The Ottawa Police Service said it will continue targeted traffic enforcement in response to community concerns, with a focus on promoting road safety and addressing dangerous and disruptive driving behaviours.
