Pieces from Mississauga's past that are usually kept in storage are going on display in Lakeview. The Museums of Mississauga will open a new exhibition, Out of the Vault: Beyond the Shore, at Adamson Estate on Thursday, Jan. 22. It runs until April 5, the city announced Monday.
The city says the exhibition brings rarely seen pieces out of storage. They include a wooden baby cradle from 1889 and an armourer's bench from the Second World War era that came from a local munitions plant.
A focus on the waterfront
This edition marks the museums' new presence at the lakeside estate. It spotlights the stories of Lakeview and Port Credit, and also includes items from each of Mississauga's 11 wards.
The exhibition is meant for families as well as history buffs. The city says there are plenty of hands-on activities so children of all ages can explore local history as they go.
Opening reception on Saturday
To mark the launch, the community is invited to a family-friendly opening reception on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m. to noon at Adamson Estate. Mississauga Library's Makerspace will run activities and demonstrations, and refreshments will be provided.
