A commercial vehicle with faulty brakes was taken out of service following a recent inspection, Peel Regional Police said, highlighting a safety concern for drivers sharing the region’s roads.

Officers found serious mechanical defects during the inspection, including problems with the vehicle’s brakes. Police said they immediately removed the vehicle from service.

The force’s commercial vehicle safety unit routinely checks vehicles to determine whether they meet safety standards. According to police, the unit operates in one of Canada’s busiest corridors for truck traffic.

Police described defective brakes as a risk to other road users, rather than simply a vehicle maintenance problem.

The force said its inspection work goes beyond enforcement: officers also look for mechanical hazards so they can be addressed before contributing to a serious collision.
